TV viewers in UK get free satellite service

Don’t hold your breath here. Yankees and Canadians can’t even dream about it. If they want a  free TV they have to steel it or watch some distorted signal of a local station on their old analog TV sets. In this site of the world you have to pay even for the commercials.

A free satellite TV and radio service from the BBC and ITV, named Freesat, was started in England Tuesday.

The new service will allow viewers to watch high-definition programming without paying for a subscription, The Times of London reported.

Instead, customers will pay a one-time fee of about $300 for a digital box, satellite dish and installation.

Viewers also must have an HD-ready television to view high-definition programs.

The report said the service will be available in 98 percent of British homes and initially will feature more than 80 television and radio channels.

It is expected to offer up to 200 channels by the end of the year, The Times said.

Way to go England !

Free to Air receivers still in the dark.

The Christmas and New Year season is over, and long anticipated fixes for the FTA receivers are still not coming.
Pirated satellite receivers are not working well or at all and even some receivers like CaptiveWorks, Pansats, Sonicviews and others are releasing temporary fixes, some form of stability is far from here. Some of the so called fixes are not working even when released.
If any of the new fixes survive any ECM, then we may expect the software to spread to other models and makes, but for now it looks like the satellite companies are winning big and pirates are crushed for now.
What about the fta receiver in IKS Internet mode?
Well, by looking at almost daily releases of new files for them I suspect that they are in a lot of trouble as well.

December Update on FTA “fixes” and files

Shortly after my last publication about the status of the FTA satellite receivers things got from bad to worse for the pirates.
Bev got totally disabled and remained like that until Saturday when pirates released some software fixes apparently aimed to just fix the Bev problem, however the moment the software was released, Bev made another ECM making the fix useless in just hours.
So this is where things are. Bev is totally down and dish is running with limited access, without PPV, Premium Movies and premium sports and no internationals.
It’s time to subscribe. Or change the entertainment source. How about theatre, cabaret, nice restaurant or Scrabble game with the family. Get involved in political party.
Bellow you can post your ideas on, How to replace and fill the emptiness caused by dead pirated satellite TV?
Or you can get on the new latest greatest thing. Get the NFusion receivers and get dependent on some server on Internet, working as card emulator and hope it will work for a while.
If you ask me? I am going skiing.  Marry Christmas.

What is up on FTA receivers.

So,  what’s up with the FTAs ?
Looks like hackers have a real fun time trying to keep up with the changes. Dish Network and Bell both are very aggressive in the fight right now.
This is understandable as the Christmas shopping is in it’s high and frustrated FTA end users are giving up hacking and switching to normal subscriptions by signing up for satellite programming with Dish Network in US and Bellexpressvu in Canada or DirecTV or Starchoice.
Will the satellite companies ease down with the ECM”s after Christmas? Time will tell.
Over past weeks Dish Network and Bell turned off PPV, Premium movie and International services on FTA receivers numerous times and in case of Bell all channels went down many times as well. Sometimes it looks like Bell is more aggressive and success full in fighting this ECM war then Dish Network. May be this is just the illusion and Bellexpresvu is just not on top of the list for hackers. Hard to tell.
At this time, since yesterday Bell ( often called Bev ) is all fixed up and running with all channels open and Dish ( often called Cherlie ) is crippled with all PPV, Premium Movie, International channels and some of the national network feeds down.
Interesting thing to notice is that as the new “fix” for bev was being released, Read the rest of this entry »

Nfusion Nova and Sonicview are back on.

Well, It’s not over. Not yet, anyway. As you can see from the two comments we got on the previous  post,  Nfusion Nova and SonicView FTA receivers have managed to release new working files.
More files will show up for the other manufacturers and models very soon I think, as that’s how it always work.
This time the wining of the race goes to Nfusion Nova and other models using the IKS internet mode. Second price goes to SonicView.
Question is:
Is it a pach or is it a fix?
If this is just a pach then they will be down on Wednesday or Thursday. If not, then they should be working next weekend as well.
Or not.
So, as I always say, if you really want your TV channels to be there for you when you want them, then go and subscribe and pay for them. If not, and you want to play the game, then don’t complain and learn to live with it.
