DircTv spends 1.2M to Lobby

Satellite-television provider DirecTV Group Inc. spent more than $1.2 million in 2007 to lobby on the nation’s switch next year from an analog to a digital TV format.

Broadcasters, cable operators and satellite providers are in the midst of an advertising campaign to educate consumers about the transition scheduled for Feb. 17, 2009.

At least 19.6 million households receive over-the-air signals exclusively in their homes, and 14.9 million households have secondary over-the-air television sets in their bedrooms or kitchens.

Nearly 70 million television sets are at risk of losing their signals on Feb. 17, 2009, if consumers do not make the easy transition to DTV.
