C-band is not going away.
I was told by one of our C-band programming supplier “don’t believe everything you here, c-band is not disappearing, it is just changing format” .
I do agree. Analog signal changes to digital and old satellite receivers will not work with this format.
Analog c-band is going away, but according to my suppliers , digital c-band (and ku-band as well) is alive and well. Apparently the numbers from (ACC) Access Control Centre posted in our previous post did not include the 4DTV digital subs.
Additionally we are suppose to look at who generate the news. Last post in our c-band section was generated by EchoStar front man Charlie Ergen, so it may be a little polarized.
I know that c-band is staying , however it is not for everyone and pressure of small dish competition , simplicity and convenience of small dish systems will have significant impact on retail future of c-band.
What retail future? I did not sale new C-band system in years. We are just maintaining existing accounts. Why there are still over 60,000 big dish subscribers? Because they liked these systems and there was nothing better , but now it is. Why aren’t they all switch to new, better technology? because they hate to have thousands of channels pushed down their throats bundled in packages they have to pay for in order to get the few channels they like or need.
